Jimmy Bullard backs Long Live the Local

Jimmy Bullard is backing the Long Live the Local Campaign
“I first heard of it on Instagram - from Jodie Kidd - and being from a pub background, a pub owner myself and a lot of my family being publicans it was something that struck me really,” he tells Mirror Sport.

“Being around my local community, seeing how many pubs are closing down there, it hurts me. The long live the local campaign is mainly getting the point over to show the government that we need to keep these pubs surviving and that beer tax is far too high for us to compete.

“Being a London boy, going out, seeing people, having a drink with friends, I see so many closing down. It’s frightening really and that’s why I got involved.

“Pubs create an environment for people to react, for families, friends to go and meet.

“But it’s jobs, jobs that pubs create and help sustain, that’s massive. My pub alone, we get so many different bar staff, especially the young coming in, getting a start in life, learning to talk to people. And that’s just inside the trade, there’s outside… window cleaners, tradesmen. A lot of pubs are homes for families - them closing down affects communities.

“That’s the main thing that grabbed me and the main reason we need people to sign our petition, take note and let the government know. Hopefully we’ll make a loud enough scream and cut the beer tax.”
